Chapters: An Introduction To Purpose By Bishop Gobanga J.O.

Since God is the forerunner to everything, it is essential that we capture the revelation of both His person and His nature. This is the only way of knowing His purpose.

Many men pursue God’s purpose without a revelation of who He is, thereby falling short of aligning to His attributes. They consider how to attain purpose devoid of the Person of God having relegated Him to be an accessory they only refer to when they deem needful.

There are those who presume that they are their own constellation. In their contemplation, destiny is a self-made attainment and not a factor of divine call and the ordinations of human existence. Indeed, the notion that “the end justifies the means”, has become a common belief for many. However, you cannot detach divine purpose from the Person of God, for it is the personhood of God that accurately reveals purpose.

There are people who derive their entitlement from what they have amassed, even if it was stolen or obtained fraudulently. Others derive entitlement from their titles and stature in society. The quest for fame seems to be their endless obsession in anticipation that reputation will afford them a sense of security and belonging. Wealth and power propel their minds and hearts headlong into a misplaced identity.

We must acknowledge God as the source of everything before we can determine the path that creation should take. Without a revelation of God’s purpose, we cannot truly appreciate the foresight of His intent for existence. We must dig a depth to uncover the inclination of God in so far as purpose is concerned through divine vision.

The origin of manifestation can only be understood based on one’s ability to decipher the divine posture that motivates existence. The mystery of God’s purpose can only be discerned by divine revelation and through embracing the attributes that make up His character. You need to grasp the precepts that validate the premise for divine skill and ability. To determine purpose, you must capture vision.

It is important to grasp this insight, for without vision, you cannot comprehend purpose. The prophetic Word of God outlines divine vision in light of His purpose. The prophetic abides in a vision so that we can see it as God’s declaration of His purpose. You cannot separate the prophetic from divine vision since the prophetic is derived from the vision.

Vision is the natural environment in which the prophetic is uttered. The prophetic Word of God is clearly perceived, declared and embraced when the vision for it is clearly understood. Without vision, you cannot recognize the compass of the prophetic as well as the purpose for which it is decreed.

God’s purpose is the locale for the expression of His divine nature. Without the divine nature, purpose has no power and value. God’s power is vested in His nature, which finds expression in and through His purpose. His purpose derives the power from His nature to demonstrate the fullness and the person of God.

The vision of God has no basis without His purpose, because it is His vision that unfolds the cumulative breadth, depth and height of divine purpose. Purpose synchronizes all existence into the manifest reality of God’s nature. The purpose of God emanates in eternity from the veracity of the essential hallmark of His divine nature. It is God’s purpose that births forth vision, encoded in His word.

A man’s purpose surpasses his cultural identity. Culture is not static but rather dynamic in so far as purpose is concerned. Culture derives its value from the pristine identity. Yet, the pristine identity redefines culture as well as all contexts of life in the successive seasons of life.

Identity is what shapes a person’s ideological, philosophical and social beliefs in light of his prophetic purpose. This purpose defines his life pursuits and his ability to live in the pristine elements that constitute his identity.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

God’s eternal purpose is a prelude to the outset of the revelation of His Word. The eternal purpose of God finds residence in divine nature. The Word of God abides by reason of the prevailing purpose of God.

Purpose is what gave the Word the fullness to express the nature and Person of God. Thereafter, purpose became the breath of God’s nature as well as His Person, which induced the Word to be life and spirit. The Word in this frame of reference is the Person of Christ.

Anyone who reads John 1:1 without proper perspective will surmise that Christ came into existence in the beginning. Another erroneous presumption would imply that Christ was not a reality but more of a theory before the beginning.

Unequivocally, Jesus did not have a beginning; neither does He have an end. He is the Beginning and the End. Time is a factor of eternity, having both a genesis and a termination. Christ is the cause and reason for all existence brought about in the dimension of time.

The genesis in this verse points to precursor of all manner of existence. It refers to the progression of God’s purpose that compelled the inauguration of His Word to express the nature and the Personhood of His Being.

For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring’.

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Everything emanates in Christ, from Him and through Him. Subsequently, everything must be established and perfected in Him. Christ is the Living Word in so far as existence is concerned. He is the fullness of the revelation of God’s purpose. In Christ, we are empowered to discern God’s eternal purpose.

It is cardinal for us to be cognizant of God’s purpose beyond mere head knowledge of His vision, for divine vision reveals not only the Personhood of God and His works, but also His eternal purpose. Once we capture His purpose in view of the revelation of vision, we shall not misunderstand Him or distort His Person.

The perception of divine vision is dependent on the scope of one’s ability to understand divine purpose. People tend to contort divine vision because they are short of discerning God’s original purpose. Consequently, this leads to a corrupted view of God’s purpose for humanity.

Unfortunately, most people end up investing their time, energy, talent and resources on what they were not called to do. It is possible to be diligent and focused, yet nothing good comes out of your labour. You may have all that it takes in terms of gifting, talent and natural abilities. However, unless you apprehend the purpose of God, your inherent capabilities will not be adequate to meet your needs.

Failure in life is the consequence of deficiency in the knowledge and pursuit of purpose regardless of gifting. Nothing worthwhile will be forthcoming even where one may be gifted unless there is genuine oversight and guidance from the Divine.

Purpose is the divine force that ignites God’s nature to manifest the supernatural power of the Word. Purpose is birthed forth in God’s word. It is the fullness of the attributes and the divine breath that express God’s nature as well as the person of His being.

True comprehension of divine purpose based on divine vision enables one to focus on knowing and functioning within a given spiritual jurisdiction. Without this comprehension of purpose, vision is an optical illusion.

The divulgence of vision in light of purpose correlates to both the individual person and the unity of the Body of Christ. Every fragment of revelation as pertains to the individual, corresponds to the consolidated Body of Christ.

God has one vision as well as one purpose. However, He has vested His purpose through His vision in different phases through individual members of the human race.

God calls us exclusively as individuals to bear His vision for our lives in order to fulfill His purpose. Each person has an exceptional vision that separates them from the rest of the crowd. Every vision has its specific focus and emphasis of understanding. There cannot be more than one person having the same vision, no matter how similar their passions are. Thus, we are not made to be clones of our similarities in regards to our individual visions.

God calls a man and locks a vision in him. The vision is what facilitates you to access your destiny. It speaks into what God has ordained for you. A vision defines the scope of the designation that the visionary is destined to carry so as to attain their purpose. When you engage the insights locked within your vision, you activate the power therein, which warrants you to fulfill your purpose.

Most fallouts within the Body of Christ occur when people label each other all sorts of names because of their inability to discern the Lord within the context of diversity. Incidences of divisions in the Church are as a result of the status quo resisting the principle of accommodating diversity, which finds expression in members who are exuding their talent and abilities in tandem with the call and the commission of God for their personal lives.

Many people presume that any notion about God and His purpose is untenable unless they understand that expression of God; thus, they have often misunderstood the existence of God and His purpose. They judge their observations based on self-appraisal.

There are those who profess to have recourse to the name of the Lord whenever they confront each other in unwarranted altercations. Yet, it is apparent that neither is right or wrong; rather, the issue is that these people are short of perceiving the purpose of God beyond the veil of visibility. Your lack of understanding does not qualify you as being right while others are wrong. The fact that you cannot comprehend people does not in any way validate your opinion and position.

Most times, we are inclined to pursue personal vendettas against each other because of contradictory perspectives based on presumptions about the value systems we hold. In our endeavour to get attention and a sense of suitability, we nurture an environment of ceaseless squabbles and the wanton expression of unwarranted contests of egotistical behaviour, which is unfruitful and lacks substance. This is because some individuals are deficient of a sense of purpose due to a lack of vision.

People lack understanding because they lack the knowledge of God. The deficiency in the knowledge of God is due to a scarcity of divine revelation of the Person of God and His purpose. Until God reveals Himself, no one can know Him.

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

The uniqueness of persons should not be a reason for strife in the Body of Christ. When you perceive God’s purpose for your life, you have no reason to strive with anyone. It is imperative to reckon with the fact that every individual is called differently from the rest.

We do not have to see things the same way, or even agree on everything in principle. Nevertheless, we ought to acknowledge that God in Christ Jesus has accepted us all. The uniqueness of individuals bears inherent diversities to propel the pursuit and fulfillment of divine purpose.

God has called us all according to His purpose, and not according to our self-predilections. We must never use our diversities to inflame strife in the Church. We are not preferred on the basis of our gifting, talents and natural abilities. Neither are we elected pursuant to the occurrences we contend with nor the exploits we have done. It is who we are in Christ that predestines the induction of our purpose.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

The circumscription of our existence in regards to the accomplishments we have made and the divine gifting in us is instituted in who we are in Christ. Hence, there is nothing about us in Christ that should project our efforts over our fellow brethren. It all has to do with the grace of God that inspires each one of us to manifest our unique diversities in an endeavour to complement one another and edify the Body of Christ.

God uses the progression of time and season to reveal the features of His vision and purpose in the context of the episodes of experiences in life. Divine wisdom is the means to translate these times and seasons into opportunities to fulfill purpose.

We all go through pleasant and unpleasant episodes of experiences. Nonetheless, each episode of experience should be framed in view of the times and seasons to reveal the magnitude of the grand vision and purpose of God. God calls you from one place to another and from one situation to the next so as to establish the purpose He has ordained for you.

Good leadership is enunciated by vision, which is vested with the grace and the anointing of Christ in the fulfillment of purpose. It takes leadership to execute the vision given to a man called by God.

The power of leadership is vested in a vision and not the leader. Leadership is not about gaining prominent status and power so as to dominate people; neither is it to oppress the led. Leadership is denominated and generated by a vision. Vision precedes leadership and the antecedence of vision is purpose.

A good leader is one who is led by the spiritual vision of God for his life. Bad leaders are rudderless. They lack the steering process of function, which is derived from a vision that leads them. They have no vision to live for.

A person who is not led by a vision cannot lead anyone, because true followers do not submit to someone because of charisma, talent or outward appearance. True followers submit to the vision of God that you express for your followers to interpret.

Grace and anointing are the instruments of power that cause a vision to define a leader with a mission to fulfill his purpose. Every vision given to a man by God has its unique grace and anointing that is in line with the pursuit of his purpose. Grace and anointing create the context of the expression of a vision given by God to a man.

The reason why someone is anointed by the Lord and granted a unique grace is because of the divine vision vested in the visionary. A man has to rely on the grace of God and the anointing upon his life to be able to fulfill his purpose in the boundaries of his vision.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

The grace of God is the inaugural domain where man is designated to flourish. It creates a divine aura causing man to unveil the supernatural vested in him. God made man to exercise the divine power vested in him to express his abilities. The anointing on a man is the clout that causes him to manifest the divine potency he carries.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

If you disregard the divine vision given to you from God, it’s at your own peril, for you end up short of the grace of God and the anointing of the Holy Spirit that you need to manifest your purpose.
