Chapters: Guest Or Family In God’s Presence? By Mary Kamau

There are certain things you can freely do home that you are either not permitted to/don’t feel free enough to do as a guest in someone’s house.

God’s presence is supposed to be our home. How many of us are acting like guests in our own home?

It starts at the door. When you visit someone, you knock on the door. You require permission to enter. Someone must come and open the door for you. Welcome you to their home.

At your own home, you likely have a key. You can come and go as you please. You are free to do many things.

Jesus is the key to God’s presence. We have Jesus. We have the key. So why are we still knocking on the door to our own home?

A guest cannot welcome another guest to a home. Only a member of that household can do that. So long as you are living in “guest status” in God’s presence, you cannot welcome another to His presence. Until you own His presence as your home you are still as much a guest as they are.

For a guest does not know the ways of the house. Every home functions in a unique way. Members of a household know the way in which their home runs. Who has which responsibilities. What is done when. Things that a guest would never know. Unless they become a member of the household. Unless they spend A LOT of time in that house. And as they observe what the others do, they learn the ways of the household. They cease to become guests. They become a mwenyeji of that house.

God’s presence is not a motel where we stop by when it’s convenient. It’s not a friend’s home where we visit every so often.

God is calling us to make His presence our home. The place we DAILY live in. He’s calling us to be a living, breathing part of His household. A people so well-acquainted with His house that He can trust us with guests who come knocking for the first time. Because He knows we’ll treat them EXACTLY like He would.

Your guest status is now revoked. Make His presence your home.
