Chapters | Who Is Archangel Jophiel? By Prophet Dr. Samo Mtishiby

Joy & Beauty: The Name That Defines The Assignment

Jophiel is often known as the angel of joy and beauty. The name itself means “the beauty of God” or “divine beauty”. She is described in these teachings as the first “she-angel” we encounter in this series, and holds distinction as the first among the fourteen principal angels in rank; seven assigned to heaven and seven assigned to earth.

When we speak of beauty in this context, we are not referring to jewelry, fashion, or outward decoration. We are speaking of divine beauty. The beauty of God expressed in creation. The beauty Jophiel carries and administers is not cosmetic. It is constitutional. It is the kind of beauty that separates one animal from another within the same species, that gives each human face its unique arrangement, that makes two trees of the same kind stand distinctly different against the sky.

Someone once asked: “Prophet, does that mean God has daughters? Are there female angels in heaven?” I laughed not to mock the person, but because it revealed something deeper. Many assume angels are only male because Scripture often uses masculine pronouns. But must heaven be filled only with males when on earth God created both male and female? When even in fallen realms there are references to male and female spirits, why should heaven lack feminine expression?

Sometimes we assume that the way we think is the way reality is. But our thinking does not define heaven. Contrary to traditional human assumption, the angelic realm includes divine feminine beings. Just as God instituted male and female genders on earth to reflect divine attributes, heavenly beings embody complementary spiritual identities. Archangel Jophiel is chief among these celestial messengers in her domain. The archangel overseeing joy, beauty, and structural order.

There is a wisdom principle worth holding onto here: you only truly know that you know something when you meet someone who knows it the same way. If you have never encountered confirmation, be humble – what you think you know may simply be imagination dressed in certainty.

From Ash To Artistic Majesty: How Creation Was Beautified

To understand Jophiel’s assignment, we must first consider the fundamental nature of physical matter. When any organic material on earth is subjected to fire, it ultimately reduces to a single foundational element: ash. Whether black or gray, ash represents the underlying, uniform baseline of earthly matter. Everything on earth, if you put it on fire, will go back to one natural color; the color of ash.

In the initial act of creation, physical elements were brought forth in a structural baseline. Trees were trees. Animals were animals. Mountains were mountains. Everything came from the dust of the earth, and if you trace back far enough, everything shares a common origin – the same elemental substance, undifferentiated. God spoke form into being. But distinction, the extraordinary visual diversity we see in nature, that came through a specific angelic assignment.

God dispatched Jophiel to oversee the beautification of creation. She acted as the divine artisan, applying distinct colors, textures, and patterns across the natural realm.

Consider what this means practically. Look at the cat family alone. The lion, the tiger, the cheetah, the leopard, the house cat all belong to the same biological family. They share skeletal structure, organ placement, behavioral instincts. Yet each looks entirely unlike the other. The tiger’s bold black stripes on orange. The leopard’s rosettes on golden tan. The cheetah’s solid spots on a lighter frame. No two look alike, yet they are relatives. Where did that distinction come from? It was Jophiel’s divine assignment. The deliberate placement of pattern and color into each creature.

Extend this to trees. Stand in a forest and count the shades of green. Jungle green, dark forest green, the pale translucent green of new leaves in spring, the deep olive of ancient branches. Same color family, endless variation. Then walk further and encounter the explosion of color in flowers – red roses, yellow sunflowers, purple jacarandas, white gardenias. This is the fingerprint of a divine artisan at work.

And then humanity. Two eyes, one nose, two ears, ten fingers on every human being born – the same blueprint. Yet no two faces are identical. No two fingerprints match. Every individual is a unique expression within a shared template. This is Jophiel’s work, extended into the very genetics of human biology.

Within the human womb, she was instrumental in embedding the capacity for physical variation – allowing children from the same parents to exhibit unique skin tones, facial features, and physical traits while remaining bound by a shared genetic identity.

Divine Contentment & The Lesson Nature Teaches Us

This divine distribution of color and form carries a profound spiritual lesson regarding contentment. In nature, creatures exist in absolute harmony with their assigned appearance. An antelope never envies the bold stripes of a zebra. A cheetah does not covet the majestic size of an elephant. Each animal resides peacefully within its unique design, operating at full capacity within the boundaries of its God-given form.

Humanity, however, often struggles deeply with this contentment. Scripture reminds us plainly: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). That is not a vague encouragement. It is a theological declaration. Fearfully, meaning with awe-inspiring precision. Wonderfully, meaning with extraordinary craftsmanship.

You were not assembled carelessly. You were designed. Yet because of sin, humanity frequently seeks artificial alterations out of a desire for worldly validation. Skin bleaching. Extreme physical manipulations. Constant comparison to others. True beauty, as established by Jophiel, is intended to reflect the glory of the Creator rather than serve as an instrument for vanity or insecurity. When you alter what God deliberately crafted, you are, in a spiritual sense, disagreeing with the artisan.

This does not mean grooming and presentation are unspiritual. Cleanliness, dignity, and care for one’s appearance honor the temple you carry. But there is a vast difference between honoring the vessel and rejecting the design.

The Heavenly Economy: Angelic Unity Vs. Human Individualization

A primary distinction between heavenly beings and fallen humanity lies in their operational mindset. Angels possess no jealousy, envy, malice, or desire for personal prestige. They do not compete. They do not seek individual recognition. Their entire existence is structured around one purpose: the glory of Yahweh.

The root of much human conflict and spiritual dysfunction can be traced back to a single systemic issue: individualization. Humanity is persistently plagued by a self-centered drive for personal recognition.

People demand to be noticed, praised, acknowledged for their contribution. This flaw infiltrates not just secular life but the modern church, where ministers sometimes compete with one another, engage in rivalry, and undermine fellow believers out of jealousy and pride.

Angels, by contrast, work in complete unity. One angel’s service complements another’s. The twenty-four elders in Revelation continuously cast their crowns before the throne without hesitation. Their entire existence is free from the burden of self-exaltation. Everything flows upward in worship. All glory returns to God, not because they are forced to give it, but because that is their nature.

There is something deeply instructive here for believers. The angel who administers joy does not resent the angel assigned to strength. The angel assigned to healing does not compete with the one assigned to provision. They work in concert, each understanding that the assignment they carry is their contribution to a larger, unified divine purpose.

When the body of Christ learns to operate this way, where each gift is celebrated rather than competed against, the corporate anointing that flows is extraordinary.
