Who Is Archangel Jophiel?
Jophiel is often known as the angel of joy and beauty. The name itself means “the beauty of God” or “divine beauty.” She is described in these teachings as the first “she-angel” we encounter in this series, and holds distinction as the first among the fourteen principal angels in rank; seven assigned to heaven and seven assigned to earth.
When we speak of beauty in this context, we are not referring to jewelry, fashion, or outward decoration. We are speaking of divine beauty. The beauty of God expressed in creation. The beauty Jophiel carries and administers is not cosmetic. It is constitutional. It is the kind of beauty that separates one animal from another within the same species, that gives each human face its unique arrangement, that makes two trees of the same kind stand distinctly different against the sky.
According to certain traditions, the role of Angel Jophiel began after creation. In the beginning, animals and trees were alike in appearance, and human beings were similar, without distinctions such as black, white, or Caucasian. Jophiel is believed to have brought beauty and diversity, adding color and distinction to vegetation, animals, and humanity.
